Colloquial / Alternate names: Status in Europe:Vagrant Where and When:vagrant Habitat: Open Country Notes: Siberian Stonechats sometimes turn up in Western Europe from East Asia - Adult males are quite hard to identify - it is best to concentrate on checking for pure white rump/uppertail coverts - females are not all that much easier - immatures and non-breeding birds in the autumn offer the best bet and are a little reminiscent of Whinchat in being paler pinky orange below often a white throat pale supercilium and large pale peachy rump/uppertail coverts. Taxonomic studies strongly suggest that Siberian and African Stonechats are best treated as separate species (see Common Stonechat) (see Whinchat) More Photos: Siberian Stonechat
